Most visitors spend one day at Mt Buller as it can be quiet expensive once you factor in accommodation on top of an already pricey day out. One day is still plenty of time to immerse yourself in the sights and activities on the mountain and have an enjoyable day skiing, snowboarding or even just sightseeing and exploring the village.
There are many ways in which you can get to Mt Buller whether it is self-driving or a coach transfer service. Listed below are a range of options for getting to Mt Buller that will ensure you and your family are on the slopes in no time and can make the most of your one day visit.
Self-Driving
Mt Buller is Australia’s closest snow resort to an international airport and is located just 3 hours from Melbourne. It’s easy to self-drive to Mt Buller and there are a few different routes you can take from Melbourne and they are listed below:
Via the Hume Hwy to Tallarook and Yea
Plenty Rd via Whittlesea and Yea
Via the Maroondah Hwy to Yarra Glen and Yea
Before you arrive on Mt Buller remember to do the following to ensure a smooth entry process:
- Buy your resort entry ticket online by midnight prior to arrival
- Familiarise yourself with snow safety driving tips and ensure your vehicle’s tyres have plenty of tread and that your headlights and brake lights are in good working order
- Arrive at the Mt Buller entry gate before 10am (arrive before 7am to ensure you catch the first lift)
- Print your pass and display it on your dash, then proceed all the way up to the car parks
Mt Buller resort entry, Ski lift passes and ski/snowboard beginner lessons can all be pre purchased before your visit to ensure you’re not wasting time on the day and also so you don’t miss out.
There are plenty of cafes and restaurant eatery options in the village on Mt Buller so can refuel after a long day of hitting the slopes. Locker hire facilities are available in the village and can be pre-booked to ensure all of your personal belongings are safe. Coach Transfers
A number of coach services operate to and from Mt Buller from Melbourne during the snow season and most provide similar timetables and tour offerings. A coach transfer is a great way to travel as the departure time from Melbourne is early enough to ensure you arrive on the mountain with plenty of time to enjoy your day. The other advantage of taking a coach transfer is the fact that you can sit back, relax and enjoy the drive knowing you are in safe hands with a professional and highly experienced driver behind the wheel.
