Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate was reportedly so impressed with this year’s Mudgeeraba Show that he is wanting to have the show scaled up to be of a similar size to the Gold Coast show, meaning residents and holidaymakers would have the choice of two spectacular shows.
Goldcoast.com.au reported that preliminary talks are underway in regards to the aquisition of land next to the village’s showground, which would ensure the space needed to enlarge the annual event.
Mudgeeraba Show president Ted Shepherd says there is a definite calling for larger crowds, they just need the space to cater for them. He believes that the Mudgeeraba Show is unique in its traditional approach compared to the Gold Coast show’s city approach, so there is definitely room for both events on the coast.
Shepherd believes it is this traditional approach that is so appealing to the attendees, claiming that too many country shows are trying to conform into something they are not. He believes that families like the idea of a traditional event that is based on agriculture, craft and machinery.
