4 Things to Do in the World’s Most Liveable City
Melbourne is renowned throughout the world as being one of, if not the most, liveable cities in the world. As the second largest Australian city, Melbourne has many features that make it a fabulous place to visit and attractions that draw people from all walks of life and places in the world.
When you visit Melbourne, you will quickly discover that there is plenty to see and do. Not only is the city attractive, quirky and appealing, it is also filled with fun and interesting sites to visit. Here we provide an overview of four of these.
1: Join a Melbourne tour
If you are eager to get a taste of Melbourne, there really is no better way than to take a Melbourne tour. Bus tours in Melbourne enable you to see highlights of the city and be introduced to its geography, layout and significant sites. In fact, many people use day tours as a starting point and later return to sites that they want to see in more depth.
On a Melbourne day trip you can expect to see the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne Park (home of the Australian Open tennis tournament), Federation Square and of course, the main shopping areas and central business district of the city.
A Melbourne tour will also enlighten you to some of the city’s incredible eating establishments, bars and cafes.
2: Enjoy the tastes of Melbourne
Melbourne is particularly famous and world renowned for its culinary offerings. The city is home to some fabulous and very high quality restaurants and eateries, that cater for all sorts of tastes and cultures. When you are in Victoria’s capital, you must enjoy some of the local cuisine, just as Melburnians do!
In the city there is no shortage of funky bars and places to enjoy a drink. In fact, in many of these bars you are able to sample and drink locally produced wine – a great alternative if you are not able to take a Yarra Valley tour.
Don’t forget to spend some time in one of Melbourne’s many cafes and take a moment to sit and enjoy the delectable coffee. Melburnians are proud of their coffee and you will find that the coffee you taste is possibly the best that you will find in Australia.
3: Stroll along Southbank
Melbourne is set on the Yarra River and the Southbank precinct has been created to captalise on the location. With the Crown Casino, shops, restaurants and plenty of public entertainment to enjoy, the Southbank is an interesting and dynamic place to visit.
Walking beyond the Southbank precinct is highly recommended – on a beautiful day the scenery along the river is picturesque and attractive.
4: Use Melbourne as a base from which to explore other parts of Victoria
While there is plenty to see and do in Melbourne, visiting other parts of Victoria is definitely recommended. From Melbourne, it is possible to take a Great Ocean Road tour, even if just for one day, and enjoy the spectacularly natural scenes, beautiful beaches, national parks and delightful towns.
The Great Ocean Road is beautiful and the source of many wonderful memories. Phillip Island, and more particularly the Penguin Parade for which it is famous, is another Victorian location that is well worth the visit.
Victoria is a perfect place for a holiday. Melbourne is a fabulous city and one of the most enchanting and interesting in Australia. Spending time exploring Melbourne is highly recommended and the city has the added bonus of being a perfect hub from which to explore other parts of the state.
